Who We Are.
The decline of local news has left residents in the dark about the decisions and developments that affect their daily lives. The Four Oranges was founded to fill in that void. Our nonprofit model allows us to prioritize mission-driven storytelling over page-view performance and ad revenue, ensuring that our communities receive the coverage they deserve.

Our Mission.
We publish a monthly magazine covering the arts, historic preservation, and local government. Our stories will never be hidden behind a paywall. The best way to stay informed is to subscribe to our email newsletter.
In 2024, we launched a website called the Newark Newsstand where we record and archive Newark’s land-use board meetings in hopes of encouraging more pubic participation.
Our latest project is called the Orange Branch Historical Society, which is dedicated to preserving the history of a former Erie Railroad line that used to pass through West Orange and advocating that we restore this line as a rail trail or a light rail.
We host regular information sessions called Good Deeds to teach residents how to use title deeds, census records, historic maps, and newspapers to discover the genealogy of your property.
